Weiner, Congressional Leaders To Join President In Launching Immigration Fix

Press Release

Date: June 25, 2009
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

Representative Anthony Weiner (D-Brooklyn and Queens), the only member of the New York City delegation who sits on the Immigration Subcommittee, will participate in a White House summit on Thursday to break the gridlock that has prevented the reform of the country's immigration laws.

The bi-partisan group of President Obama and Congressional leaders will discuss the future of immigration and ways to push forward changes this year.

"It is vital to the fabric of our nation and the strength of our economy that we address the sorry state of our immigration laws; President Obama understands this. It won't be easy, but if we leave the demagoguery at the door, I am convinced we can find bipartisan consensus that produces reform that strengthens our economy and demonstrates our humanity," Rep. Weiner said.
